Full-Time Kennel Technician

The PK9H Team is growing and our Kennels are at max capacity with a list of heroes waiting in line for our assistance. We have an immediate opening for 1-2 Kennel Technician(s) who have specific experience and a background in working with Police K-9s and Military Working Dogs.

Kennel Technicians provide daily care for our K-9 Heroes and assist with kennel maintenance at our Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility in Marion County, Tennessee. They are involved with daily cleaning of the housing areas as well as bathing, grooming, exercising, feeding, administering medication, and monitoring the behavior our retired K-9 Heroes.

Duties for a Project K-9 Hero Kennel Technician are:

​1. Perform daily cleaning of kennels following proper disease control protocol to ensure a sterile environment.

2. Learn the triggers of every K-9 Hero in the program and ensure they have the best retirement possible.

3. Exercise all K-9 Heroes at the facility 2-3 times daily.

4. Groom, bath, and perform health checks on all assigned K-9 Heroes as needed.

5. Report directly to the Director of Facilities.

The successful candidate will:

▪ Have a passion for animal welfare.

▪ Maximize the K-9 Heroes comfort with a gentle and reassuring manner.

▪ Observe the K-9s appearance and activity for general physical condition and obvious signs of illness.

▪ Socialize and exercise K-9 Heroes in a safe manner at all times.

Candidate Requirements:

o Two or more years of experience working with Police K-9s or Military Working Dogs. Specifically those who possess behavioral or aggression issues.

o Must be able to learn basic veterinary medical concepts, including but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks.

o Must also be able to communicate basic veterinary concepts to others and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian.

o Will be asked to communicate with the public in a professional manner.

Physical Requirements:

o Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours.

o Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help.

o Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.

o Must be able to see fine detail in a variety of situations.

o Must have reasonable degree of agility to move through tightly cramped areas in various situations

o Excellent interpersonal and team building skills.

▪ Must be able to work in potentially extreme environmental temperatures.

▪ Must have acceptable sense of balance.

▪ Must be able to work and reach on hands and knees.

▪ Must be able to use a ladder and/or step stool.

▪ Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination.

▪ Must possess an acceptable degree of dexterity in hands and fingers.

▪ Must have good vision, including peripheral vision, fine detail, distance, depth perception, and ability to focus.

Working Conditions:

This employee usually works in an outdoor kennel environment but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.

▪ Hear and understand speech at normal levels.

▪ Speak so that others will be able to understand a normal in-person and telephone conversation.

▪ Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

▪ Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
