Description

Reports to daily assigned safety routes/post (s) to assist students traveling to and from school.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

There are 2 shifts to report to:

1st shift ~ 6:30 AM-9:00 AM & 2nd shift ~ 1:30 PM-4:00PM

  • Report to daily assigned safety routes/post (s) one hour before the arrival bell (ninety-minute shift) and thirty minutes before the dismissal bell (four-hour shift) to assist students traveling to and from school.
  • Report to daily assigned safety routes/post(s) to assist students traveling to and from bus stops and boarding necessary buses.
  • Monitor designated “hot spots” for suspicious behavior and potential conflicts.
  • Collaborate and instantly report any known or potential conflicts to the team lead and or supervisor.
  • Wear a uniform and/or having official identification that clearly defines their status as Community Watchers.
  • May at times report to alternative routes around nearby schools due to potential conflicts in the community.
  • May at times be deployed throughout safety routes during school events to take place outside of school arrival and dismissal times including, but not limited to, athletic events, school dances and graduation ceremonies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:

Education:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age old.
  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Resident of Dolton/Harvey/Riverdale community communities.

Experience:

  • Able to work with youth and school community.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Full attendance and participation in supervision and all scheduled trainings.

Other:

  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.
  • Able to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.
  • Must pass a background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Constantly moves to assist children in crosswalk.
  • Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
  • Frequently moves desks, chairs, tables and easels.
  • At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs.

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
