We are now looking for individuals to join our team as Medical Secretaries, also known as Outpatient Access Specialists in our network. These Medical Secretaries perform clerical tasks for our practices such as patient registration, patient scheduling, and charge entry to initiate patient billing. Outpatient Access Specialists are accountable for efficient work performance and excellent customer service.
Work Hours: Monday-Friday 6:45am-6:30pm (8 hour Shift)
Weekend and Holiday coverage if needed (open availability)
Primary responsibilities include:
- Provides warm-hand off to primary care provider office for escalated or declined digital health visit requests (both e-visits and on-demand Video Visits)
- As appropriate, at the direction of digital health provider, is the liaison between DH department and primary care offices. Must professionally and efficiently communicate requests for in-person care to the primary care office via telephone and clerical in-basket pools
- As needed, follows written protocols to ensure that patients are scheduled with providers in appropriate sequence.
- Is able to follow written directions, which establish the need to add urgency to patients who are currently in queue. This alerts providers within DexCare of sequencing that patients are to be seen. Most circumstances will result in the default of patients being seen in the order they enter the queue.
- Utilizes DexCare chat functionality to warmly and professionally greet the patient. Reviews patient completed registration form and compares to Epic registration. Updates the Epic registration, as necessary, based on patient entered details. If patient is new to Epic, runs real-time eligibility verification of insurance plan.
- Manages self-pay registration details. Communicates, to digital health provider, that “do not bill” has been updated. With the same level of decision making, accurately updates self-pay indicator in Epic registration, when patient is uninsured.
- Check-in visits in Epic; utilizes Cadence Front Desk workflow to ensure the visit is arrived for the digital health provider.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School, GED or equivalent experience required
- 2 years of medical office experience required.
Preferred:
- Ability to use various hospital information systems (Epic) preferred.
- Medical terminology experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to word process documents and enter data into a database.
- Demonstrated skills related to achievement of customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrates the ICARE values to patient, families and staff.
- Ability to act as a resource to less experienced staff.
