Hagerty is currently supporting a state-supported, non-governmental organization (NGO)-led humanitarian mission that provides emergency sheltering and mass care services to vulnerable populations. The operation also contains a significant public health and medical component focused on COVID-19 screening, testing, and vaccination.

We are looking for experienced mid to senior-level planners to join our Southern California project and are prioritizing candidates with a background in emergency management, public health, NGO and humanitarian fields, and professional management consultants.

This is a high-tempo, client-facing operation that requires individuals who can engage in complex, sensitive, and fast-moving conversations and rapidly provide thoughtful analysis of problems, risks, and inefficiencies and solutions and recommendations to address them. The role requires individuals with a high level of professionalism, humility, interpersonal skills, and precision with communications.

Location: This position is in Southern California. Candidates must be able to work on-site for at least three (3) to six (6) months.

In this role, candidates must have:

  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in planning within an emergency management and/or response function.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate meetings on complex topics with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Experience developing highly professional deliverables to include one-pager summary recommendations and related planning documents/deliverables.
  • Knowledge of the real-world application of disaster plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in planning and or in various Planning or Operations Section roles during incidents or events.
  • Willingness to be on-site working with a client for several months, and work shifts up to 12 hours as needed based on the client’s operational tempo.
  • Proficiency with technology and comfort with computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  • A bachelor's degree.

Candidates might also have:

  • Extensive emergency management, disaster response, emergency operations center (EOC), and/or field operations experience.
  • A management consultant background, especially in client-facing roles on disaster operations.
  • Experience with and understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS) and Planning and/or Operations Section roles and responsibilities.
  • Experience serving as within the Planning Section or Operations Section on various types of incidents or events.
  • A background in collecting, analyzing, and compiling data and essential elements of information related to a disaster operation.
  • Past mobilizations and deployments responding to disasters.
  • Formal certifications specific to emergency management, such as a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation.
  • A project management background.
  • A master’s degree in a related field, such as emergency management, public safety, homeland security, public health, etc.

Salary range: $70,000-130,000

Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and training, licensure and certifications, location, travel requirements, and other business and organizational needs.
