Senior Port Dispatcher (Hourly, Non-Exempt)
$19.00-$25.00/hour Plus Benefits
Position Summary
Senior Port Dispatcher is a lead position responsible for the coordination and utilization of 30 plus drivers, containers, and chassis to create capacity, maximize productivity and ensure zero service failures to internal and external customers found within a 100-mile radius of Savannah, Georgia. This position is also responsible for the coordination and communication with the internal customers on daily needs and requirements to hit customer goals and cut offs. This position will coordinate with management on driver compliance, payroll, disciplinary actions and any other area that is expected to be escalated. The successful candidate for this position must be able to adjust to last minute changes and work with drivers to schedule emergency pick-ups and/or deliveries for new or established clients when necessary. Responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective movement of cargo by our drivers to and from the destinations determined by our customers. Destinations to include, but not limited to the Georgia Ports Authority – both GCT and Ocean Terminal – as well as various locations within a 100-mile radius of Port Wentworth/Garden City, GA.
Accountabilities:
  • Operations- Provides productive dispatches that uses the drivers time efficiently and eliminates unnecessary fuel expenses. Essentially, triangulates dispatches that continues to keep the drivers under dispatch when possible, eliminating unnecessary bobtailing. Responsible for on time pick up and deliveries and minimal days on wheels.
  • Driver Issue Resolution- Provides timely and accurate resolution to driver issues with dispatches and equipment failures.
  • Compliance and Safety- Must understand driver compliance requirements with DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA. Must maintain a safe, efficient, and orderly dispatch office and working area.
  • Technology and Systems- Must be able to grasp and understand dispatch systems, both manually and via dispatch software. Must be able to obtain login and work in port NAVIS system. Must be able to work in Microsoft office programs such as word, excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Team Development- Responsible for driver retention. Must be able to motivate and energize small dispatch team and driver fleet of IC’s. Must lead by example; show and demonstrate a positive can-do attitude. Responsible for dispatch associates training and development.
  • Company Policy- Must comply with company policy, rules and procedures. Work and behave safely by following all safety rules and regulations. Must be willing to perform any task required to support customer requirements and company goals.
Essential Skills, Education & Experience:
  • Knowledge/Experience/Skills- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, basic typing skills, familiarity with ten-key and the ability to operate the companies dispatch system.
  • Three (3) or more years of related transportation dispatch experience and/or training. This related experience may be substituted for degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to ask for assistance from co-workers, Supervisors or Management when lifting and/or moving any object, regardless of weight, where personal injury may occur. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. Position is in office setting; however mild temperature fluctuations are common and change seasonally. Working in direct sun and rain are required.
  • Schedules: Must be willing to work overtime when the workload dictates including Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
