Job Description:

Herkimer College seeks qualified applicants for a Staff Accountant - Payroll.
The Staff Accountant - Payroll is responsible for tracking and processing all aspects of the college's payroll by tracking employee work hours, handling college payroll data, issuing paychecks each pay period and performing all required reporting.
Major responsibilities:
1) Individually performing the professional accounting work required on the maintenance of financial reports as they relate to personal services and benefits
2) Maintenance of employee records as they relate to compensation information
3) Ensures that all processes and reports related to payroll are completed on time
4) Entering and reconciling payroll activity including compensation and payroll deductions
5) Participates in the auditing of a variety of financial records
6) Resolving discrepancies and responding to employee questions about compensation, taxes, benefits and deductions

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience:
1) Associates Degree in Accounting, Business, Human Resources or Related Field; Bachelor's Degree preferred
2) Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
3) Experience with payroll processing software preferred
4) Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
5) Advanced mathematical skills, outstanding organization ability and strong attention to detail
6) Highest integrity in handling confidential information
7) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Additional Information:

Coordinates and/or Assists with:
1) Financial planning as it relates to personal services and benefits
2) Participates in the formulation of procedures and policies as they affect payroll
