The purpose of this Operating Procedure is to specify the tasks and duties of a Tool & Mobilization Specialist (TMS) at S R Freeman, Inc. To ensure company expectations of the employee are defined and met.

REPORTING RELATONSHIPS

The TMS reports directly to and is fully accountable to the President.

No position reports directly to the TMS.

REQUIREMENTS

Must have an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

Prefer a high school education or equivalent.

Must be computer literate, with a familiarity with MS Office Suite, and internet savvy.

Must be mechanically adept, with the ability to repair small tools, equipment and other devices.

Must have a working knowledge of residential frame carpentry.

Must be physically capable of lifting lumber, framing and finishing work on the job site.

Must have a valid California Driver’s license and have a reliable means of transportation.

Must maintain a clean driving record and notify the Human Resources immediately if those changes.

Must be able to lift 100 pounds.

Must have excellent eyesight and depth perception.

Must be in sound physical condition and able to perform a physically demanding job. Body movements include walking, turning the head and torso, lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, grasping, and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands and fingers. The sense of being able to see, hear and having full power of speech are required. Must be able to climb and balance.

Must speak English well enough to take instructions from supervisors, communicate with fellow employees, lead meetings and conduct trainings. Must be able to read and write English well enough to do research, update manuals, perform write-ups, compile reports, and interpret technical language around construction safety.

Must have a working knowledge of how to properly use all power tools used in the construction industry, especially circular and reciprocating saws, nail guns, drills, beam saws, etc.

At times required to travel on company supplied ground transportation to field assignments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some of the time (20%) will be spent in an open office environment, with some light noise and with limited controlled temperature. Some of the time (20%) will be spent in a workshop with some moderate noise and tools and equipment. The remainder of the time will be spent attending training classes, traveling to job sites or other meetings as needed to perform the functions of the SO/TMS position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The SO/TMS is responsible for minimizing the exposure of S. R. Freeman crew members to unnecessary hazards inherent in frame carpentry through education and enforcement of best practices

Develop and maintain safety policies and procedures that meet with OSHA, CAL/OSHA, and SRF requirements

Develop and maintain training programs for tool safety and/or certification (ie Forklift, Powder Actuated tools, etc), and provide that training to employees who need to be trained

Maintain written records of safety meetings, jobsite safety inspections, employee training

Develop and maintain a tool inventory system to track company owned tools

Coordinate with Jobsite Foremen regarding their specific tools needs and arrange for them to be delivered.

Maintain the shop and parking lot in a clean and debris free manner.

TASKS AND DUTIES

Works with P.M.’s and foremen to manage and mobilize tools and equipment to and from the jobsites as needed.

Maintain an inventory of lumber and hardware stored at the shop and send monthly updates to the Jobsite Foremen. As needed.

Clean and organize shop and parking lot weekly at minimum, or as needed on a more frequent basis.

Perform minor repairs on company owned tools when needed.

Consult with our outside repair facility for more complex repairs, and to obtain replacement parts.

Purchase and catalogue new company owned tools, and work with our vendors to ensure correct pricing.

Obeys all safety rules and regulations.

Obeys all company policies and procedures

Maintains a good working relationship with co-workers.

Maintains a professional appearance when dealing with clients, vendors, and other visitors.

Maintains all work areas, including desk area, in a clean, professional and organized fashion.

Performs any other duties and tasks as may be assigned time to time by the Office Manager.

Demonstrates the ability to pass a written exam based on the required skills for this position

Demonstrates safe work habits, and always uses safety glasses, proper lifting techniques, etc.

Supervisor is satisfied with the quantity and quality of work performed.

Supervisor has been informed in advance of any absence, late arrival or early departure.

Paperwork and time sheets are up to date and accurate.

Employee injuries are kept to an acceptable level

Tardiness and absenteeism is less than 2%.

Supervisor has been informed of any potential problems on the job or with the equipment and hand tools.

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
