Job Summary: Responsible for all aspects of mountain and base operations as well as associated projects and planning at Homewood Mountain and Lake Club. Ensures safe and welcoming environment for employees and guests. Controls costs and profits while maintaining high quality conditions and standards with a focus on setting the standard delivering exceptional service. Emphasis on project management of current and proposed mountain projects, including gondola installation, snowmaking masterplan, forest management and other mountain projects.

Essential Job Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

  • Leads Mountain Operations Director who manages activities of Grooming, Snowmaking, Patrol, Lift Operations and Lift Maintenance.
  • Leads Base Operations Director who oversees Building Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Parking/Base Transportation and Snow Removal.
  • Leads Resort Services Director who oversees Ticketing and Season Passes, Retail and other Resort services.
  • Takes point on Mountain-related project management, planning, permitting and implementation.
  • Works with government/local agencies and regulations concerning operational issues. Assures compliance with all government regulations and laws.
  • Ensures proper repair and maintenance is being completed on all necessary equipment up to state, federal and local codes and restrictions.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, and conducts regular performance of team.
  • Develops, coaches and mentors' team as a whole and as individuals.
  • Assists directors with management of payroll for their respective departments and adjusts according to business levels and needs.
  • Actively participates in strategic planning and budgeting activities.
  • Works closely with leadership team in creating an exceptional mountain experience and welcoming employee environment.
  • Supports General Manager as needed and provides counsel on operational, and industry needs and requirements.
  • Develops and manages associated budgets, capital expenditures, department purchasing and inventory in tandem with Directors and Finance.

  • Works hand-in-hand with Human Resources to navigate and manage employee challenges.
  • Tactfully and efficiently handles problems and emergencies in line with company standards.
  • Participates in and supports employee events and outings.
  • Work directly with department managers and spend majority of time on mountain.
  • Assists team in performing duties whenever necessary, including but not limited to, holidays, overnights, and weekends, as well as covering planned, or unexpected time off of associated department leaders and/or General Manager, and during heavy snow periods and other inclement weather.

Experience/ Education


  • 10+ years of related experience in senior mountain operations positions and project management.
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Highly proficient in Word, Office, Excel with ability to quickly learn new programs as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations governing mountain operation and risk management.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

The majority of the time is spent on employee’s feet walking, hiking, and/or skiing/riding. The job requires a great deal of time outdoors and often in harsh weather conditions. The employee frequently is required to use a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include night and close vision, distant vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fumes and outside weather conditions. The employee will regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Employment with Homewood Mountain and Lake Club is “at will” for no definite period of time. The employee may terminate employment at any time without notice or cause, and so too can Homewood Village Resort terminate employment relationship at any time without notice or cause.
