The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime.

IDOC is currently accepting applications for a temporary part time Volunteer Services Coordinators who will plan, organize, and coordinate religious programs within correctional facilities. The incumbent will recruit community volunteers for specific religious services, develop institutional schedules for religious services, and meet regularly with residents to evaluate religious needs. Successful candidates should have an unbiased approach and support the needs of the Department’s population and the various religious denominations. This announcement will be used for the Idaho Correctional Institution - Orofino in Orofino, Idaho.

Example of Duties

  • Oversee and coordinate religious activities at a correctional facility
  • Recruit, train and manage religious volunteer workforce
  • Develop, coordinate and implement a volunteer application process, training programs, volunteer incentive programs and recognition events
  • Visit sick and hospitalized residents/inmates
  • Arranges programs and services such as study groups, prayer meetings, education classes and religious counseling to be provided by religious volunteers
  • Maintain meticulous records and reports on volunteer performance and hours and educational programs/events and their effectiveness
  • Hire, train and supervise religious volunteers to assist with religious activities
  • Recruit, train and manage a volunteer workforce to assist department staff and accomplish agency goals
  • Maintain and track a large inventory of department equipment and materials for use by volunteers and staff
  • Manage budgets and expenses in religious and volunteer programs
  • Speak to community groups
  • Serves as a liaison with community organizations and churches
  • Assures availability of religious literature

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience planning, developing, and maintaining programs to utilize volunteer workers
  • Experience utilizing community resources for recruitment of volunteers
  • Experience supervising volunteers including interviewing, selection, and performance evaluation
  • Experience training volunteer workers
  • Experience maintaining program records
  • Preparing and giving oral presentations to groups

Supplemental Information

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some knowledge of the needs of institutionalized residents or incarcerated individuals and their families
  • Good knowledge of various religious denominations and their beliefs and practices
HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:
  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
