ReDiscover is a nonprofit community mental health agency that offers a full spectrum of programs and services for people whose lives have been affected by serious mental illness and/or substance use. ReDiscover helps men, women, and children who have limited income, no insurance or who are under-insured.

We started out in Lee's Summit, MO as a group of volunteers in the basement of a local church. We incorporated in 1969. Over the years, the community has known our agency and our unique programs by several different names, including Research Mental Health, North Star, and Common Ground. In 2003, we permanently changed our agency name to ReDiscover.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the general direction of the CT Supervisor and/or Team Leader, The Wellness Recovery Specialist performs job after receiving general instructions. Wellness Recovery Specialist’s main objective is to provide oversight and training in all aspects of independent living skills to adults living with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorder in a supervised residential setting.

This is achieved by providing individual and group therapeutic interventions that facilitate personal growth, skill building, identification and use of natural supports, and use of community resources while monitoring effectiveness of services and providing crisis services and linking clients to appropriate services as needed. In addition to the duties of the Wellness Recovery Specialist the Wellness Recovery Specialist shall perform other duties as assigned.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work in collaboration with clients and their families to identify client accomplishments, strengths, and resources that could be mobilized to support wellness and recovery.
  • Assess client’s self-care, health and wellness, emotional and vocational goals and needs.
  • Provide individual and group personal growth skills training utilizing evidenced based practices.
  • Work in collaboration with client’s family members and other providers to implement consumer’s comprehensive individualized recovery plan.
  • Assists client’s learning daily living activities.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other departments, services, and community health care agencies to facilitate and support wellness and quality care.

SHIFT:

  • Full-Time - 80 hours/every two weeks
  • Monday to Friday - 3:30pm to 12:00 midnight

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in social science related discipline.
  • Qualifying experience may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum three (3) years direct service to the target population or other human service experience preferred.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of mental illness.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Knowledge of behavioral health, confidentiality policies and community services.
  • Willing to receive training and regular supervision on evidenced based practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with interdisciplinary team and communicate effectively.
  • A valid automobile operator’s license, appropriate automobile insurance and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work hours is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Additional experience and course work in the mental health/substance use/criminal justice related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a mental health or substance use setting and/or with clients who have co-occurring mental health disorders is preferred.
