Denise Louie Education Center is a local nonprofit providing comprehensive, multicultural early education and family support services to low-income, at-risk immigrant and refugee communities residing in King County for over 40 years. Today, Denise Louie serves nearly 950 children and families with preschool, home visiting, and socialization groups-all of which are offered at no cost.
We are currently seeking a motivated Education Director to join our cause. The Education Director oversees all operations of DLEC childcare sites by providing direction to each site’s Education Supervisors, Education Coaches and Child Development staff. The Education Director will provide leadership to the childcare center staff and volunteers and ensure centers are operating according to program standards and in accordance with DLEC’s vision and mission.

Essential Functions

  • In collaboration with the Program Director and Executive Director design the Education program’s internal structures, systems, policies and curriculum.
  • Lead team of Site Supervisors and Child Development Co in planning, implementing and administering the center based and coaching education program services to ensure consistency with organizational policies and procedures, mission, and budget.
  • Ensure adequate systems in place to maintain highest quality of services to children and families in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and all other federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ensure consistency in service delivery across program with attention to inclusive practices and integration of component areas; encourage continuous improvement of systems.
  • Establish relationships with early intervention service providers and public schools for assessment referrals and quarterly reporting on intervention services provided.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and funders to increase access to community resources for families and improve services
  • Provide ongoing education and training to staff and families in the areas of child development, special needs, and parenting education.
  • Plan and facilitate regular meetings with direct reports and peers as needed.
  • Hire, train, mentor and provide general supervision to the Education team, facilitating a respectful, professional, caring and committed department culture that mirrors DLEC values.
  • Advise the Education team in the selection, formulation, and dissemination of materials related to child development.
  • Collect, review, and submit data for mandatory reports in collaboration with Education Supervisors and other team members. Ensure all required documentation is being maintained accurately.
  • Ensure that all required screenings and assessments are completed and communicated within the timeframe set by the Early/ Head Start standards.
  • Oversee the disabilities family review and ensure accommodations are made (if necessary) for child and parent to participate in socializations.
  • Utilize data to set and measure progress towards goals and inform program refinements

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate parent meetings and training classes as needed.
  • Assist home visitors/teachers in analyzing child outcomes data and other data to individualize for the child/family.
  • Work in the classroom as needed to provide coverage and model best practice behavioral strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Counseling or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in providing child development, counseling, special education or related services in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start and ECEAP preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, analytical skills, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to low income adults and English as a second language adults.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and daily access to a personal, legally licensed vehicle with proof of current automobile insurance.
  • Bilingual in English and another language(s) (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Somali, or Vietnamese) preferred.

Pay Range: $72,095 - $82,912 annually

Team members are eligible to participate in the company 401(k) plan, which offers a non-elective employer contribution after an introductory period. In addition, eligible full-time and part-time employees will accrue up to 18 days of PTO, eleven paid holidays, and one personal holiday annually.

Physical Demands: To perform the job the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and operate a computer.
Working Conditions: The work is typically performed in an early childhood school environment, with moderate to loud noise level. Frequent travel to other site locations is needed.
